ROADS
What is ROADS?
ROADS (properly known as RISC OS Active Developers Scheme) is a simple
proposal to thank those software developers who continue to provide
quality applications for the RISC OS community, by providing modern
hardware at reduced prices.
We’ve tried to offer the best reductions in pricing that we can, in some cases
up to 50%, because we want to reward and encourage those developers who
keep our community alive and kicking. There’s even an option to pay for
new hardware in instalments.
What it isn’t…
It isn’t anything like the Acorn Registered Developers’ Scheme. Yes, there’s
a discount on hardware, but we don’t offer a support system in the way that
Acorn did. Sorry.
Why do I have to register?
We want to make sure that the support and encouragement goes to those
who are still actively developing for RISC OS, so we’ll just go and have a look
at your website and check out your apps. There may be some applications
that we didn’t know about, too, so that’s a bonus for us - we’re always on
the lookout for new applications!
What happens after I register?
We check out your website and look for your apps and then we email you a
username and a password for our exclusive ROADS offers and pricelist. You
can simply buy from the pricelist, using PayPal - either with your own
PayPal account, or, if you don’t have a PayPal account, you will be able to
pay by debit or credit card. If you’re not sure which hardware offers suit
you best, you can still get in touch and we’ll have a chat about it. But we
know you’re a knowledgeable bunch, and many of you will just want to
click and buy!
What do you do with my details?
Very little! As stated earlier, we’ll check out your apps and your website and
then we’ll store the information you gave us in a secure database so that we
can keep a very simple record of those active developers who are still
working on RISC OS. We may send you a very occasional email, if we add
new offers to the Scheme.
We certainly won’t share them with anyone else - to be fair, we’re not sure
who’d be interested in a bundle of RISC OS developers’ details! If you don’t
want us to store any of your information, let us know once you’ve
registered, and we’ll just delete it. No problem.
I used to be a developer and I’m thinking of
returning. Do I qualify?
That’ll do for us! We might ask you a few questions about what you’re
working on, but it won’t be an interrogation! As we said, we just want to
make sure those people who support our community are rewarded.
To be fair, we’d really like to encourage those wishing to return to the fold -
we all missed you while you were away!
I’m a programmer but completely new to
RISC OS coding. Do I qualify?
Oh yes! We love newbies! If you can bring your skills and experience to RISC
OS, even if it’s been honed on a different OS or platform, we’re more than
happy to welcome you with open ARM
®
s! We might get in touch to see what
you’re thinking of doing, but chances are, you’re in!
I’ve used RISC OS for a while, but I want to
start coding. Do I qualify?
You may well do! Again, we may get in touch to see what your plans are, and
what you’re thinking about developing, but it’s worth applying.
How do I apply?
Just fill in this form!
