Modern NVMe technology at a bargain price The DIY ONE is a self-assembly RISC OS computer kit designed to provide a complete, ready-to-build system while giving the user flexibility over finishing and future upgrades. The kit includes all essential components and case parts, excluding only a power supply. Standard contents are a laser-cut oak-veneered MDF case, a Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4, heatsink, NVMe storage drive, carrier board, spacers, brass standoffs, screws, and washers. Each case panel is shipped with a protective film to prevent damage during handling, which should be removed prior to assembly. The assembly process is straightforward and requires only basic hand tools, with no soldering involved. It begins with fitting thermal pads to the Compute Module 4, securing the heatsink, and mounting the module onto the base carrier board. The NVMe drive is then installed in its slot and fastened with a small retaining screw. The assembled board is fixed to the inside of the case using brass standoffs, with wood spacers and washers to ensure accurate alignment. The oak-veneered panels interlock around the board, and the top cover is secured with screws, making it easy to open for maintenance or upgrades. The case is supplied untreated, allowing the builder to choose their preferred finish, whether staining, varnishing, painting, or leaving the natural wood appearance. An SD card with a pre-configured RISC OS installation is included, enabling the system to boot and run immediately after assembly. Most builds can be completed in a few hours, and the modular design allows for component replacement, expansion, or performance upgrades over time without replacing the entire unit. Technical Specification Processor Speed: overclocked up to 2GHz Memory: 2GB SSD Storage: 128GB NVMe storage for RISC OS as standard Networking: Gigabit Ethernet port and integrated WIFI option USB ports: 2 rear Audio/Video: Audio over HDMI Single full sized HDMI ports Up to 3840x2160 HDMI graphics SD: 32GB for OS, boot and storage OS and Software: RISC OS 5 plus over 2GB of RISC OS Software as standard Case: Veneered unfinished oak slices - 110mm x 85mm footprint Power and activity indicator LED Options: Commercial software pack (worth over £500) 4GB RAM 256GB NVMe upgrade SATA Optical Drive Active cooling
